Materials:
* Motor oil for automatic transmission (Ford Mercon LV type or equivalent)
* New automatic transmission oil pan plug
* Washer for automatic transmission oil pan plug
* 17 mm wrench
* Wrench for removing drain plug
* Bucket or tray for collecting used oil
* Trichter
* Rags
Step by step instructions:
1. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. This will thin the oil and make it easier to drain.
2. Turn off the engine and lift the car on a lift or jack it up. Make sure the vehicle is securely secured to prevent it from falling.
3. Find the automatic transmission oil pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
4. Place a bucket or tray under the oil pan drain hole.
5. Loosen the drain plug with a wrench. Do not unscrew it all the way.
6. Carefully remove the plug by hand to drain the used oil into a bucket. Let the oil drain completely.
7. Replace the drain plug along with the washer. Tighten the plug until it is tight, but do not overtighten it.
8. Determine the volume of oil drained. This will help you determine how much oil to add.
9. Add approximately half the volume (in liters) of drained oil to the automatic transmission using a funnel.
10. Start the engine and shift the gear selector to different positions (P, R, N, D) for a few seconds to circulate the oil through the system.
11. Check the oil level in the automatic transmission. Make sure it is between the “cold” and “hot” marks on the automatic transmission dipstick.
12. If necessary, add oil.
13. Lower the vehicle from the lift or jacks.
Notes:
* Do not overfill oil. This can lead to shifting problems and other problems.
*If you don’t have a lift or jacks, you can change the oil by using an oil syringe to pour oil from the top through the automatic transmission dipstick.
* Regularly check the oil level in the automatic transmission and add it if necessary.
