Replacing the rear engine mount of a Kia Spectra with automatic transmission
Materials and tools:
* New rear engine mount (original or equivalent)
* Set of wrenches or sockets
* Mounting or large flat key
* Jack and stands
* Penetration oil
Instructions:
1. Preparing the car
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool.
2. Raising the car
* Place the jack under the subframe on the right or left side of the vehicle, depending on the location of the rear engine mount.
* Slowly raise the vehicle until there is at least 10 cm of clearance in the subframe.
* Place stands under the subframe for safety.
3. Removing the rear engine mount
* Position yourself under the vehicle and locate the rear engine mount. It is located at the rear of the subframe and is attached to a bracket on the cylinder block.
* If possible, treat the engine mount mounting bolts with penetrating oil.
* Using a wrench or socket, loosen the four bolts securing the engine mount to the cylinder block.
* Carefully remove the bolts and remove the rear engine mount.
4. Installing a new engine mount
* Clean the seating surfaces on the subframe and cylinder block.
* Install the new engine mount in place, lining up the bolt holes.
* Tighten the bolts securing the engine mount to the cylinder block by hand.
*Using a wrench or socket, tighten the bolts to the recommended torque (refer to your vehicle’s service manual for torque).
5. Lowering the car
* Slowly lower the vehicle from the stands.
* Lower the vehicle completely and remove the jack.
6. Check
* Start the engine and check for noise or vibration coming from the rear engine mount.
* Check the tightness of the bolts securing the engine mount and tighten them if necessary.
Adviсe:
*If you have difficulty loosening the bolts, support the top of the wrench with a pry bar or a large flat wrench.
* Be careful not to damage wiring or other components under the vehicle.
*If you don’t have a lift or stands, you can prop your car up with wooden blocks or logs.
