Using an automatic transmission in winter
Starting the engine:
* Start the engine and enter the “P” (parking) mode.
* Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes to allow the transmission fluid to warm up.
* Move the gear lever to “D” (drive) mode.
Driving:
* Be careful when accelerating and braking, as wheel slip may occur on slippery surfaces.
*Use S (Sport) or L (Low) mode when extra traction is needed on slippery or steep surfaces.
* Avoid sudden acceleration and braking as this may result in loss of control.
Gear shift:
*Most automatic transmission vehicles have a «Winter» button that slightly changes the gear shift points to improve traction on slippery surfaces. When this button is engaged, the transmission will downshift earlier, providing additional torque and traction.
*If necessary, you can downshift manually using M (manual) mode or steering wheel paddle shifters for improved control on slippery surfaces.
Other tips:
* Check the transmission fluid level regularly and add it if necessary.
* Change transmission fluid and filter according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Avoid wheel spin as this can cause wear to the transmission.
* Be especially careful on icy or snowy surfaces and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
