Tools and materials:
* Wrench set
* Socket heads
* Flat blade screwdriver
* Phillips screwdriver
* Container for draining transmission fluid
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* New automatic transmission filter
* Transmission fluid
Automatic transmission dismantling:
1. Ensure safety. Set the car to the parking brake and chock the wheels. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Drain the transmission fluid. Place a container under the automatic transmission pan and unscrew the drain plug.
3. Remove the fender liner. Remove the automatic transmission side fender liner to gain access to the components.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors. Locate and disconnect the wiring harness connectors connected to the automatic transmission.
5. Unscrew the torque converter bolts. Locate the bolts holding the torque converter to the crankshaft and remove them.
6. Disconnect the hoses. Disconnect the automatic transmission cooling hoses and vacuum hoses.
7. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine. Find the bolts holding the automatic transmission to the engine and unscrew them.
8. Support the automatic transmission. Use a transmission jack or other suitable tool to support the automatic transmission.
9. Move the automatic transmission away from the engine. Carefully move the automatic transmission away from the engine so that you can disconnect the connectors and hoses.
10. Completely disconnect the automatic transmission. Completely disconnect all connectors, hoses and wires connecting the automatic transmission to the vehicle.
11. Remove the automatic transmission. Carefully remove the automatic transmission from the vehicle.
Please note:
* Be careful when disconnecting wiring harness connectors.
* When disconnecting hoses, place a container to catch any spilled liquid.
* The automatic transmission is heavy, so you will need an assistant to remove it.
* When installing a new automatic transmission, use a new pan gasket and filter.
* Before starting the engine, make sure that there is a sufficient amount of transmission fluid in the automatic transmission.
