Gearbox with manual mode (tiptronic)

Manual mode transmission, also known as tiptronic, combines elements of an automatic and manual transmission. It provides automatic gear shifting and manual control for the driver.

Working principle:

Tiptronic operates on the torque converter principle, just like a conventional automatic transmission. However, in addition to the automatic mode, it also has a manual mode.

In manual mode, the driver uses the lever or steering wheel paddle shifters to select gears. The transmission carries out these commands just like a manual transmission, but without the need for a clutch.

Advantages:

* Increased control: Manual mode gives the driver more control over gear selection, especially when cornering, overtaking and going downhill.
* Improved Dynamics: Manual control allows the driver to keep the engine in the optimal rpm range for maximum performance.
* Fuel Saving: In some situations, manual shifting can help save fuel by avoiding unnecessary downshifts.

Flaws:

*More complex controls: Tiptronic controls may take some time to master, especially for novice drivers.
*Higher Cost: Manual mode transmissions are typically more expensive than regular automatic transmissions.

Application:

Tiptronics are often used in sports cars where drivers appreciate the ability to manually control the gearbox. They are also found on luxury cars and some four-wheel drive vehicles.
