Changing the oil in a 6-speed automatic transmission Kia Sid
Materials:
* Oil for automatic transmission Hyundai/Kia SP-IV (about 4 liters)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission oil filter
* 5 mm hexagon
* 10 mm wrench
* Pliers
* Funnel
Steps:
1. Remove the engine protection. If it is installed, unscrew the bolts and remove the protection.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This is necessary to reset the automatic transmission settings.
3. Raise the vehicle on a lift or place it on a level surface. Make sure the vehicle is securely secured.
4. Drain the old oil. Place a pan under the drain hole on the automatic transmission pan. Unscrew the drain plug with a 5 mm hexagon. Wait until the oil drains completely.
5. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan using a 10 mm wrench. Carefully separate the pan from the transmission.
6. Replace the automatic transmission pan gasket. Remove the old gasket and install a new one.
7. Clean the automatic transmission pan. Clean the pan of metal particles and dirt.
8. Reinstall the automatic transmission pan. Install the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts evenly.
9. Replace the automatic transmission oil filter. Find the automatic transmission oil filter and unscrew it with pliers. Install a new filter.
10. Fill the automatic transmission with new oil. Using a funnel, pour about 3.5 liters of fresh SP-IV oil into the automatic transmission.
11. Check the oil level. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Shift through all gears and return the selector to the Park position. Measure the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. The oil level should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks. If the oil level is too low, add oil.
12. Tighten the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug with a 5mm hexagon.
13. Install engine protection. If the protection was removed, replace it.
14. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
Note:
* Always change the automatic transmission oil at the recommended intervals specified in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
*Do not use other types of oil other than those recommended by the manufacturer. This may damage the automatic transmission.
*If you are not confident in your abilities, contact a certified mechanic to change the automatic transmission oil.
