An automotive electrician is a skilled technician who repairs, maintains, and installs electrical systems and components in automobiles.
Responsibilities:
* Diagnose electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and testing methods
* Repair and replacement of electrical wiring, harnesses, connectors and fuses
* Installation, configuration and repair of electronic control systems for the engine, transmission, lighting and other vehicle functions
* Installation and connection of audio systems, navigation devices and other additional equipment
*Checking electronic safety systems such as airbags and anti-lock braking systems (ABS)
* Maintenance and condition testing of batteries, generators and starters
Required skills and knowledge:
* Knowledge of electrical engineering and principles of operation of automotive electrical systems
* Ability to work with diagnostic equipment and devices
* Soldering and wiring skills
* Knowledge of car wiring diagrams
* Understanding of electronic engine and transmission control systems
* Understanding of vehicle safety systems
* Ability to work effectively in a team and individually
