To fill the automatic transmission of an Audi A4, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the engine is cold.
2. Raise the car. Use a jack or lift to raise the front of the vehicle to gain access to the underbody.
3. Remove the engine crankcase protection. It is usually secured with bolts that can be removed with a wrench or screwdriver.
4. Locate the automatic transmission oil pan drain plug. It is usually located at the bottom of the oil pan and has a hex or square head.
5. Place an oil pan under the drain plug. This can be a tray or bucket with a capacity of at least 2 liters.
6. Unscrew the drain plug. Use the appropriate size wrench. Be careful as the oil may be hot.
7. Drain the oil into the oil pan. Let all the old oil drain.
8. Clean the drain plug and replace it. Use a new O-ring if necessary.
9. Locate the automatic transmission oil pan filler plug. It is usually located at the top of the oil pan.
10. Unscrew the filler plug.
11. Using a funnel, pour new oil into the automatic transmission. Use oil recommended by the manufacturer.
12. Fill in as much oil as was drained. Typically 4 to 6 liters of oil are required.
13. Close the filler plug.
14. Reinstall the engine crankcase protection.
15. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
16. Check the oil level in the automatic transmission. To do this, start the engine and leave it idling. Move the gear selector to different positions and return it to the park position.
17. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The dipstick for checking the oil level in an automatic transmission is usually located next to the filler plug. The oil level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick.
18. Adjust the oil level if necessary. Add or drain oil to adjust the level to the correct level.
