Steps to take if the automatic transmission is stuck:

1. Stay calm and safe:

* Pull to the side of the road if possible.
* Turn on your alarms.
* Park the car on a level surface.

2. Try to restart the car:

* Wait a few minutes for the gearbox to cool down.
* Shift the gear selector to Park (P).
* Turn off the engine.
*Wait a few minutes and then start the engine again.

3. Check the transmission fluid level:

* Locate the transmission oil dipstick and remove it.
* Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth and reinsert it.
* Pull out the dipstick and check the fluid level.
*If the fluid level is low, add the appropriate automatic transmission fluid.

4. Inspect the electrical connections:

* Open the hood and inspect the battery terminals.
* Clean the terminals if they are oxidized or corroded.
* Check all electrical wires and connectors associated with the transmission.

5. Manually switch to emergency mode:

* Some vehicles are equipped with an emergency mode that allows partial use of the transmission.
*Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for instructions on how to enter emergency mode.

6. Call technical assistance:

*If none of the previous steps help, call technical assistance.
* Describe the situation to the dispatcher and provide the make, model and year of your vehicle.

Additional tips:

* Do not continue driving if the transmission is stuck. This may cause serious damage to the vehicle.
* Do not change gears manually as this may further damage the transmission.
* Do not attempt to repair the transmission yourself unless you have the appropriate knowledge and experience.
