Actions to be taken if the automatic transmission is jammed:
1. Stop in a safe place. If the automatic transmission jams while driving, smoothly stop the car on the side of the road or in a safe place.
2. Turn on your hazard lights.
3. Try moving the gear shift lever to the Park (P) position. Sometimes jamming can be caused by a faulty gear shift system.
4. Stop the engine.
5. Wait a few minutes. In some cases, the jam may clear on its own.
6. Restart the engine. If the jam is not cleared after you have waited, try starting the engine again. The gear shift lever may move to the Park (P) position.
7. Check the transmission fluid level. Low fluid levels can cause the transmission to seize. Check the fluid level dipstick and add fluid if necessary.
8. Seek professional help. If you are unable to clear the jam yourself, contact a qualified mechanic for help.
Additional tips:
* Do not try to force shift the gear lever. This may cause further damage to the transmission.
* Do not tow a vehicle with a seized transmission. This may cause serious damage.
*If you are in the middle of the road, be careful when getting out of your vehicle.
*Call emergency or roadside assistance if you cannot resolve the problem yourself.
