Emergency mode of automatic transmission in Mitsubishi Pajero
This is a safety mechanism that is activated when the transmission detects a problem such as low ATF, overheating or mechanical failure. The automatic transmission’s emergency mode is designed to reduce further damage to the transmission and ensure safe driving until repairs are made.
Symptoms of emergency mode of Pajero automatic transmission:
* Limited transmission to multiple gears (usually only second and third gears)
* Transmission does not shift or shifts incorrectly
*Check Engine light flickers or flashes
* Emergency transmission indicator (AT Oil Temp) is on or flashing
* Unusual noises or vibrations when shifting gears
Reasons for emergency operation of the Pajero automatic transmission:
*Low or dirty ATF level
*Transmission overheating
* Electrical problems such as faulty solenoids or sensors
* Mechanical damage such as worn clutches or gears
* Torque converter problems
Actions when automatic transmission emergency mode is activated:
1. Stop in a safe place: Pull to the side of the road and stop as soon as possible.
2. Check ATF Fluid Level: Use the transmission fluid dipstick to check the fluid level and condition. If the level is low or the fluid is dirty, add or replace the fluid.
3. Check for Overheating: Feel the transmission to determine if it is overheating. You can also check the transmission fluid temperature sensor if there is one.
4. Read fault codes: Connect the OBD2 scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic port to read fault codes and determine the possible cause.
5. Contact a Mechanic: If you cannot determine the cause yourself, contact a certified mechanic for diagnosis and repair. Do not continue to drive your vehicle in limp mode as this may cause serious damage to the transmission.
