The manual automatic transmission (tiptronic) is a hybrid of classic “mechanics” and “automatic”. Tiptronic is a system that gives the driver the ability to select gears manually, but at the same time he is freed from the need to constantly pull the clutch lever, since the gears change automatically.
Working principle:
1. The driver moves the gear selector lever to the “tiptronic” position (usually marked “+/-“).
2. Using a button or gear shift lever on the steering wheel (if equipped), the driver selects the desired gear.
3. The transmission automatically changes gears when a certain engine speed is reached, just like a conventional automatic transmission.
4. The driver can return to full automatic mode at any time by moving the gear selector lever to the “D” (Drive) position.
Advantages:
* Improved control: Tiptronic allows the driver to change gears manually, giving him greater control over the car.
* Downshift Ability: The driver can downshift to increase engine braking or accelerate acceleration.
* Sportier driving mode: Tiptronic allows the driver to enjoy a sportier driving experience.
* Fuel Economy: In manual mode, the driver can optimize gear shifting for better fuel economy.
Flaws:
*Can be tiring: Changing gears manually can be tiring, especially in heavy traffic.
* More expensive: Tiptronic tends to be more expensive compared to conventional automatic transmissions.
*Less battery charge in hybrid vehicles: Manually shifting gears in hybrid vehicles can reduce battery charge.
