The Mercedes-Benz W124 automatic transmission selector is a lever that is used to select the operating mode of the automatic transmission. It is located on the car’s center console and allows the driver to switch between modes:

* P (park) – locks the transmission, preventing the vehicle from moving.
* R (reverse) – engages reverse gear.
* N (neutral) – disengages the transmission, allowing the vehicle to move freely.
* D (Drive) – standard forward driving mode that automatically changes gears.
* 3 – limits the gear selection to use only first, second and third gears.
* 2 – limits the gear selection to use only first and second gears.
* 1 – includes only first gear.

The automatic transmission selector also has an S (sport) position, which changes the gear shift algorithm for more aggressive driving. And the W (winter) position, which turns on a winter driving mode to improve traction on slippery surfaces.
