Automatic transmission solenoids are responsible for:

* Gear selection: Shift gears in the transmission by controlling hydraulic valves that direct the flow of fluid.
* Torque Converter Lockup Control: Locks the torque converter to improve power delivery and fuel efficiency.
* Slowdown and Shifting: Controls the position of band and disc clutches to ensure smooth gear shifting.
* Pressure Control: Regulates the fluid pressure in the transmission for proper operation of various components.
*Diagnostics and Limp Mode: Some solenoids also perform diagnostic functions and can put the transmission into a limp mode if a fault is detected.
