Appearance of the automatic transmission filter
The automatic box filter is a cylindrical element made of metal mesh or filter paper and surrounded by a rubber seal. Typical filter sizes:
* Diameter: 50 to 150 mm
* Height: from 50 to 200 mm
Filter design
An automatic transmission filter usually consists of the following components:
* Mesh or filter paper: Captures debris, metal shavings and other contaminants from the transmission fluid.
* Rubber Seal: Provides a tight seal between the filter and the gearbox housing.
* Spring (on some models): Keeps the filter in position.
Filter color
The color of the automatic transmission filter can vary from white or cream to brown or black, depending on the degree of contamination of the transmission fluid.
Filter location
The automatic transmission filter is usually located inside the transmission housing. It can be accessed by removing the transmission sump.
Filter types
There are two main types of automatic transmission filters:
* Mesh filters: Made of metal mesh with different pore sizes. Can be washed and reused.
*Paper Filters: Made from folded filter paper. Disposable and must be replaced when servicing the gearbox.
