Signs of automatic transmission torque converter failure
1. Transmission slippage
* Vehicle does not accelerate properly or is slow to upshift.
* The engine runs at high speed, but the car does not accelerate.
* Dips or bumps are felt while driving.
2. Overheating
* Increased transmission fluid temperature
* Burning or smoke smell from transmission
* Transmission overheat indicator on the dashboard
3. Noise and vibration
* Grinding, humming or squealing noise when shifting gears
* Vibration in the transmission, especially when accelerating or decelerating
4. Transmission fluid leak
* Presence of fluid leaks under the car
*Low fluid level in gearbox
* Leakage can lead to clutch slippage and damage to other automatic transmission components.
5. Difficulty shifting gears
* Delay or lack of gear shifting
* Gear shifting is too rough
*Transmission may get stuck in a certain gear
6. Loss of traction
* Sudden loss of power or inability to move the vehicle
* Complete or partial lack of traction on one or more wheels
7. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)
*On-board computer scans may reveal DTCs indicating a faulty torque converter.
Please note: the torque converter is a complex component, and these symptoms may indicate other problems with the automatic transmission. It is recommended that you contact a qualified mechanic for accurate diagnosis and repair.
