Volvo XC90 automatic transmission temperature sensor location
On most Volvo XC90 models, the automatic transmission temperature sensor is located in the automatic transmission oil pan, next to the oil filter.
Instructions for replacing the Volvo XC90 automatic transmission temperature sensor
Materials and tools:
* New automatic transmission temperature sensor
* Open end wrench or socket wrench
* O-ring or Teflon tape
*Clean rag or towels
* Drain pan and fluid for draining automatic transmission oil
Steps:
1. Gather the necessary materials and tools.
2. Prepare the car. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
3. Find the automatic transmission temperature sensor. Determine its location as described above.
4. Assemble the drain pan and drain some of the oil from the automatic transmission. This is necessary to prevent oil from spilling out when disconnecting the sensor.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector of the sensor. Carefully disconnect the electrical connector from the automatic transmission temperature sensor.
6. Unscrew the automatic transmission temperature sensor. Use an open-end wrench or socket wrench to unscrew the sensor from the oil pan.
7. Remove the old O-ring. Remove the old O-ring from the sensor.
8. Apply a new O-ring or Teflon tape. Apply a new O-ring or wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the new sensor.
9. Screw in the new automatic transmission temperature sensor. Screw the new sensor into the oil pan, tightening it with a wrench to the proper torque (listed in your vehicle’s service manual).
10. Connect the electrical connector. Connect the electrical connector to the new sensor.
11. Add oil to the automatic transmission. Add drained oil to the automatic transmission or add new oil, if required.
12. Start the engine and check the system. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for oil leaks and make sure the automatic transmission temperature sensor is working properly.
