Steps to check automatic transmission oil in Volvo S40:

1. Start the engine and warm it up.
Warm up the car to operating temperature.

2. Place the car on a flat surface and park it.
Make sure the gear shift lever is in the “P” position.

3. Open the hood and find the automatic transmission dipstick.
The dipstick is usually located on the front of the transmission. It has a yellow handle or ring.

4. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
Remove the dipstick completely and wipe the bottom end with a clean cloth.

5. Insert the dipstick back into the tube and remove it again.
Holding the dipstick vertically, insert it back into the tube and remove it completely.

6. Check the oil level.
The oil level should be between two marks on the dipstick: “MAX” and “MIN”. If the oil level is at the “MIN” mark or below, add oil.

7. Add oil if necessary.
If the oil level is low, add the required amount of oil through the dipstick hole. Use only automatic transmission oil recommended by the manufacturer.

8. Check the oil level again.
After adding oil, check the level again by following steps 3 to 6.

9. Lower the hood.
Close the hood after checking the oil level.

Warnings:

*Always check the automatic transmission oil level with the engine warm to ensure an accurate measurement.
* Do not overfill automatic transmission oil. Overfilling may damage the transmission.
* Use only automatic transmission oil recommended for your vehicle. Failure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations may result in damage to the transmission.
