Switching Volvo gearbox modes

Automatic transmission selector

The selector is located on the center console.

Gearbox modes

* P (Parking): locks the gearbox output shaft, designed for long-term parking of the vehicle.
* R (Reverse): Activates reverse gear.
* N (Neutral): disables the transmission output shaft, intended for short-term stopping or towing the vehicle.
*D (Drive): Basic driving mode designed for most driving conditions.
* 4 and 3: manual modes that limit upshifts.
*S (Sport): Provides a sportier shift setting.
* W (Winter): increases traction on slippery roads.

Switching between modes

1. Press the lock button on the selector.
2. Move the selector to the desired mode.
3. Release the lock button.

Manual mode (4 and 3)

Manual mode allows you to manually change gears using the selector.

* To downshift, press the selector forward.
* To upshift, press the selector back.

Special Features

* Parking lock prevents the selector from moving to the parking position when the ignition is turned off.
*Shifting to neutral when the engine is turned off automatically moves the transmission to neutral when the ignition is turned off.
* The vehicle cannot be started in park mode if the selector lever is not in the park position.
