Required materials:
* New automatic transmission filter (the part number for your Volkswagen Touareg model can be found in the owner’s manual or through the online parts catalog)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission oil (it is recommended to use the same oil that was used previously)
* Tool kit (including hex keys, wrenches and screwdriver)
* Rags or paper towels
Replacement procedure:
1. Raise the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a lift or use jacks and stands.
2. Drain the oil from the automatic transmission: Place a tray under the automatic transmission to collect the oil. Unscrew the drain plug with a hex wrench and drain the oil. Let the oil drain completely.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the automatic transmission. Carefully remove the pan, being careful not to damage the gasket.
4. Replace the filter and gasket: Remove the old filter from inside the automatic transmission and install a new one. Clean the surface of the tray thoroughly. Install a new gasket on the pan.
5. Install the automatic transmission pan: Lift the pan and align it with the automatic transmission. Tighten the pan mounting bolts by hand, and then tighten them with a torque wrench.
6. Fill with new oil: Pour the appropriate amount of new oil into the automatic transmission through the filler plug. Check the oil level with the automatic transmission dipstick.
7. Replace the drain plug: Install a new drain plug with the O-ring and tighten it with a hex wrench.
8. Lower the vehicle: Lower the vehicle and let the engine run for a few minutes.
9. Check the oil level: After the engine has been running for a while, turn off the engine and wait a few minutes. Check the oil level with the automatic transmission dipstick. Add oil if necessary.

* If the oil is heavily contaminated or has a burning smell, it is recommended to completely change the automatic transmission oil.
* Reset the automatic transmission adaptations so that the new fluid is properly calibrated.
