Checking the automatic transmission oil level on a Volkswagen Passat B6:

You will need:

*Clean rag or paper towel
* Flathead screwdriver or 17mm hex key

Steps:

1. Place the vehicle on a level surface: Make sure the vehicle is in Park with the engine running.
2. Warm up the transmission: Let the engine idle for a few minutes to warm up the transmission fluid.
3. Open the hood: Pull the hood lever under the steering wheel and lift the hood.
4. Find the automatic transmission dipstick: The automatic transmission dipstick is located on the side of the transmission. It should be red or yellow and have a handle with a ring.
5. Pull out the dipstick: Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and reinsert it.
6. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level: Remove the dipstick a second time and check the oil level on the dipstick.
7. The oil level must be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks: If the oil level is below the “MIN” mark, it is necessary to add fluid. If the oil level is above the “MAX” mark, it may be overfilled and should be drained.

Note:

* When checking the automatic transmission oil level, the car must be started and in the “Parking” position.
* Do not overfill transmission fluid as this may damage the transmission.
* If the oil level is very low or very high, have the problem repaired by a qualified mechanic.
