Materials:
* New transmission oil (ATF) for VW 09M gearboxes (approx. 4 liters)
* New oil pan gasket
* New drain bolt
* Universal key
* Automatic transmission oil filter (if applicable)
Tools:
* Wrench set
* Funnel
* Pliers
* Tray for collecting used oil
Steps:
1. Warm up the engine and gearbox: Drive the car for 10-15 minutes to warm up the oil in the gearbox. This will make it easier to drain.
2. Raise the vehicle: Raise the front of the vehicle using jacks and securely support it.
3. Remove the sump guard (if applicable): If your Passat has a sump guard, remove it to gain access to the transmission sump.
4. Disconnect the oil cooler hose: Loosen the hose clamps on the hose from the transmission to the oil cooler. Disconnect the hose and plug the hole.
5. Remove the oil pan: Clean the oil pan bolts and remove them using a wrench. Carefully remove the oil pan and drain the used oil into a collection pan.
6. Replace the oil pan gasket: Remove the old oil pan gasket and install a new one.
7. Install a new drain bolt: Replace the drain bolt with a new one and tighten it to the recommended torque (25 Nm).
8. Install the oil pan: Carefully install the oil pan in place and tighten the bolts to a torque of 12 Nm.
9. Connect the oil cooler hose: Reinstall the oil cooler hose and tighten the clamps.
10. Add new oil: Using a funnel, pour new oil into the oil pan. Refer to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually about 4 liters).
11. Replace the automatic transmission oil filter (if applicable): If your transmission uses an oil filter, remove the old filter and install a new one.
12. Check the oil level: Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Move the gear selector to each position and return to park.
13. Open the drain bolt to check the oil level: Drain a little oil until it starts to drip out.
14. Tighten the drain bolt: Tighten the drain bolt to a torque of 25 Nm.
15. Install the oil pan guard (if applicable): Reinstall the oil pan guard and tighten the bolts.
16. Reset the oil change interval counter: If your vehicle has an oil change interval counter, reset it using a diagnostic scanner or following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Adviсe:
* Use gear oil of the type specified by the manufacturer.
* Tighten all bolts to the recommended torque.
* Check and, if necessary, add oil after a run of 100 km.
* Regular automatic transmission oil changes will extend the life of the gearbox.
