Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission (automatic transmission) Opel Vectra
Required tools and materials:
*Clean rag or paper towel
* Automatic transmission oil dipstick
Precautions:
* Check the oil level only with the engine running and the transmission warm (drive the car several kilometers).
* Stop on a level surface.
*Be careful as the oil may be hot.
Instructions for checking the oil level:
1. Place the gear shift lever in the Park (P) position.
2. Find the automatic transmission oil dipstick. It is usually located in the engine compartment and has an orange or red handle.
3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag or paper towel.
4. Insert the dipstick back into the tube and remove it again.
5. Check the oil level on the dipstick. It should be between the two marks “HOT” and “COLD” on the dipstick. If the oil level is below the “HOT” mark with a warm engine, you will need to add oil.
If the oil level is low:
* Purchase automatic transmission oil recommended by the car manufacturer.
* Find the automatic transmission filler plug. It is usually located on the top of the gearbox.
* Open the filler plug and slowly add the required amount of oil to the “HOT” level on the dipstick.
* Insert the dipstick back and check the oil level as described above.
If the oil level is high:
* Pump out excess oil using a syringe or pump through the filler plug.
* Check the oil level again as described above.
Note:
* Do not overfill oil as this may cause gear shifting problems.
* Regularly check the oil level in the automatic transmission and change the oil in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.
