Marca ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)

Types of fluid

* Full Synthetic (FS): Made from synthetic base oils with carefully selected additives.
* Semi-synthetic (SS): A blend of synthetic and mineral base oils.
* Mineral (M): Made from refined petroleum.

Viscosity

Indicated by a numerical value that indicates the thickness of the liquid at a certain temperature. The higher the number, the thicker the liquid.

*Low Viscosity (LW): Lower viscosity ATFs designed for use in cold climates or modern electronically controlled transmissions.
*High Viscosity (HW): Higher viscosity ATFs designed for use in older transmissions or in hot climates.

Performance

* Dexron: ATF specification set by General Motors.
* Mercon: ATF specification set by Ford.
*SP: Specification for ATF set by Chrysler.
* Allison: ATF specification set by Allison Transmission.
* JASO 1-A: Specification for ATF established by the Japan Automotive Standardization Organization.

Example of ATF designation

* Dexron VI FS LW: Fully synthetic ATF like Dexron VI with low viscosity
* Mercon V HW M: Mercon V type mineral ATF with high viscosity
* JASO 1-A SS: Semi-synthetic ATF meeting JASO 1-A specification
