Subaru Forester SG5 automatic transmission training

Required equipment:

* Subaru Select Monitor (SSM) scanner or equivalent

Procedure:

1. Prepare the car

* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Place the gear shift lever in park position (P).

2. Connect the scanner

* Connect the SSM scanner to the vehicle’s OBD-II diagnostic port.

3. Select transmission functions

* From the scanner menu, select Transmission > Transmission Features.

4. Start the learning procedure

* Select the “Transmission Adaptation Learning” option.
* Click “OK” to start the procedure.

5. Follow the onscreen instructions

* The scanner will provide on-screen instructions during the procedure.
*Follow the instructions carefully, pressing the gas and brake pedals at the specified times.

6. Gear shift

* After completing the full sequence, the scanner will ask you to drive the vehicle.
* Drive under normal driving conditions, shifting gears up and down.

7. Clearing fault codes

*After completing the learning procedure, use the scan tool to reset all transmission related trouble codes.

8. Completion

* Turn off the engine and unplug the scanner.
* Start the engine and check the transmission for correct gear shifts.

Notes:

* The training procedure may take approximately 15 minutes.
* Make sure that the vehicle is on a stable and level surface during the procedure.
*If the learning procedure fails, please contact your Subaru dealer for professional assistance.
* This procedure is applicable to all Subaru Forester SG5 models with automatic transmission.
