Procedure for changing the oil in a Toyota Spacio automatic transmission
Required tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission oil (Dexron III or Toyota WS)
* Automatic transmission filter (if required)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Keys for removing the transmission pan
* Funnel
* Gloves
Instructions:
1. Warm up the engine. Drive the car for about 10 minutes to allow the gearbox oil to warm up.
2. Find the automatic transmission. It is located under the car, in the central part.
3. Raise the car. Use a jack or lift to raise the front of the car. Provide additional support for safety.
4. Remove the sump pan. Find the machine pan and unscrew the bolts securing it. Be careful as oil may leak.
5. Drain the old oil. Allow the old oil to completely drain into the prepared container.
6. Replace the transmission filter (if necessary). If the filter is damaged or very dirty, replace it with a new one.
7. Clean the transmission pan. Remove any remaining old oil and debris from the pan.
8. Install a new gasket on the pan. Lightly coat the gasket with a thin layer of transmission oil.
9. Reinstall the pan. Tighten the pan bolts diagonally to the required torque (see owner’s manual).
10. Fill with new oil. Using a funnel, pour a sufficient amount of new oil into the transmission. The oil capacity varies depending on the Toyota Spacio model, so check your owner’s manual.
11. Check the oil level. Check the oil level using the transmission fluid dipstick. The oil level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick.
12. Start the engine. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
13. Shift gears. Shift all gears in order, holding each gear for a few seconds to allow the oil to circulate through the system.
14. Check for leaks. Check under the car for transmission oil leaks.
Notes:
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil every 40,000-60,000 kilometers or as recommended by the manufacturer.
*Use only the automatic transmission oil recommended for your Toyota Spacio model.
