Shifting gears in a Toyota RAV4 automatic transmission

1. Start the engine. Make sure the shift lever is in Park (P).

2. Press the brake pedal. This will ensure safe gear shifting.

3. Move the gear shift lever to the desired position:

*P (Parking): To park the vehicle and lock the drive wheels.
* R (Reverse): for reversing.
* N (Neutral): to disable the transmission and allow the engine to start without the vehicle moving.
* D (Drive): For moving forward under normal driving conditions.
* S (Sport): for dynamic driving, with faster downshifts.
* L (Low): For low speed, high torque driving, such as towing or off-road driving.

4. Release the brake pedal. The transmission will automatically select the appropriate gear.

Additional Tips

* Do not shift into Park (P) while driving. This may damage the transmission.
* When driving off-road, it is recommended to shift to “L” or “S” gear for better traction control.
* Maintain your automatic transmission regularly, including changing the transmission fluid and filter.
