Method 1: Using an OBD-II scanner

1. Purchase or lease an OBD-II scanner that is compatible with the Toyota RAV4.
2. Connect the scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector, usually located under the steering column.
3. Follow the instructions on the scan tool to navigate to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
4. In the TCM menu, find the option to reset automatic transmission adaptation.
5. Select the reset option and confirm.

Method 2: Using a jumper

1. Locate the diagnostic jumper on the engine control module (ECM). It is usually located next to the battery and has two contacts.
2. Using a wire or paper clip, short the jumper pins for 30 seconds.
3. After 30 seconds, open the jumper contacts and start the engine.

Method 3: By disconnecting the battery terminals

Note: This method should only be used if other methods have failed.

1. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.
2. Wait 15 minutes.
3. Connect the negative terminal back to the battery.
4. Start the engine and move the automatic transmission selector to all positions in turn, holding each position for a few seconds.

Notes:

* Resetting the automatic transmission adaptation may take some time before the transmission returns to optimal operation.
*If you have problems with any of the methods described, contact a qualified mechanic.
