Required materials and tools:

* New Toyota WS gear oil or compatible (about 3 liters)
* New oil filter (optional)
*Transmission funnel
* 10 mm hex key
* Flat head screwdriver (optional)
* Wrench or ratchet with 19 mm socket

Instructions for changing the oil in a 2006 Toyota RAV4 automatic transmission:

1. Place the vehicle on a level surface: Apply the parking brake and place the vehicle in the park position.

2. Warm up the engine: Start the engine and run it for a few minutes to allow the oil to warm up and become less viscous.

3. Open the transmission filler cap: Open the hood and locate the transmission filler cap, which is usually located on the passenger side of the transmission. Unscrew the cap by hand.

4. Drain the old oil: Place a container under the machine to catch the oil and unscrew the drain plug using a 10 mm hex key. Allow the old oil to drain completely.

5. Replace the oil filter (optional): If you want to replace the oil filter, remove the filter housing mounting screws with a flat head screwdriver. Remove the old filter and replace it with a new one.

6. Install the drain plug: Clean the surface of the drain plug and reinstall it by tightening it using a 10mm hex key.

7. Fill with new oil: Insert the transmission funnel into the filler neck and slowly pour in new transmission oil. Add about 3 liters of oil until the level reaches the lower mark on the dipstick.

8. Check the oil level: Remove the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and reinsert it into the filler neck. Pull out the dipstick and check the oil level. Add more oil as necessary until the level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick.

9. Close the filler cap: Replace the filler cap and hand-tighten it.

10. Clean up oil spills: Wipe oil spills from the engine and other surfaces with a rag or paper towel.

11. Reset the error code (optional): If the instrument panel displays an error code after changing the oil, you can reset it by simultaneously pressing and holding the “TRIP” and “ODO” buttons on the instrument cluster for a few seconds.
