Automatic transmission diagnostics Toyota Chaser 90
Tools and materials:
* Diagnostic scanner (preferably Toyota Techstream or equivalent)
* Clean rag
* Screwdriver (optional)
Procedure:
External inspection
1. Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid. The liquid should be red and relatively clear. Excessive dirt or metal particles may indicate a problem.
2. Inspect the automatic transmission pan for leaks or damage. Leaking fluid may be a sign of a bad seal.
3. Check the connecting elements between the automatic transmission and the engine and the drive shaft. Make sure they are securely fastened and are not loose or damaged.
Reading fault codes
1. Connect the diagnostic scanner to the OBDII connector.
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Select the “Read Trouble Codes” option from the scanner menu.
4. Write down any fault codes displayed.
5. Decipher trouble codes using a repair manual or online source.
Manual diagnostics
1. Check the automatic transmission mode switch. Make sure it works correctly and doesn’t jam.
2. Try moving the gear shift lever to different modes and evaluate the response of the automatic transmission. Any slipping, slipping or noise may indicate a problem.
3. If possible, remove the automatic transmission pan and check the filters, gaskets and condition of the internal components. Metal particles or burnt material may indicate damage.
Interpretation of results
Fault codes may indicate the following faults:
* Problems with sensors
* Electrical faults
* Mechanical faults (eg clutch wear, slipping)
Manual diagnostic results can further confirm the nature of the fault and provide more detailed information.
Note:
Self-diagnosis can help identify underlying automatic transmission problems, but for a complete and accurate diagnosis, it is recommended that you consult a qualified mechanic.
