Controlling an automatic transmission on a Toyota Camry
Ignition switch
* LOCK: Locks the gear shift lever
* ACC: Accessories (radio, air conditioning, etc.)
*ON: Engine on
* START: Start the engine
Gear shift lever
The gear shift lever has the following positions:
*P (Parking): Locks the drive wheels for parking.
* R (Reverse): Move backwards.
* N (Neutral): No gear.
* D (Drive): Normal driving, gear shifting is automatic.
* S (Sport): Sharper shifting for improved acceleration.
* B (Engine Braking): Increased engine braking for descending a mountain or controlling speed on slippery roads.
Shifting gears
To change gears, follow these steps:
1. Press the brake pedal.
2. Move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
Using the Shift Lock Button
The Shift Lock button is located under the gear lever. It is used to release the lever from the park position (P) if the battery is low or the engine is not running.
To unlock the lever:
1. Press the Shift Lock button.
2. Move the lever to the neutral position (N).
Tips for use
*Always engage Park (P) and turn off the engine before leaving the vehicle.
* Do not change gears while driving.
*Do not shift from Park (P) to Drive (D) or Reverse (R) at high speed.
*Service the transmission regularly according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
