Adjusting the Toyota Camry automatic transmission shift cable

Required tools:

* Wrench set
* Flat blade screwdriver

Steps:

1. Place the gear shift lever in the “Park” position. Apply the parking brake.

2. Locate the shift cable. It is usually located to the left or right of the gearbox and has a black casing.

3. Loosen the locknut at the end of the cable. Use the correct size wrench.

4. Rotate the cable end until it fits snugly against the automatic transmission shift lever. Make sure the cable is not too tight, but not too loose.

5. Tighten the locknut.

6. Check the adjustment. Move the gear shift lever to all positions and make sure that gear shifts smoothly and without delay.

Additional tips:

*If you are unsure about the adjustment process, refer to the repair manual for your specific Camry model.
* If necessary, lubricate the shift cable. This will help reduce friction and extend the life of the cable.
* If the shift cable is damaged or worn, replace it with a new one.
* Adjustment should only be made if gear shifting is difficult or not smooth. Do not adjust the cable unless necessary.
