Toyota automatic transmission oil temperature sensor
Location:
The automatic transmission oil temperature sensor is usually located in the transmission sump.
Description:
The automatic transmission oil temperature sensor is a thermistor (measuring resistor) that changes its resistance depending on the temperature. As the oil temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases.
Function:
The transmission oil temperature sensor sends a signal to the transmission control module (TCM), which uses this information to:
* Automatic transmission fluid pressure adjustment
* Temperature-dependent gear shift control
* Determination of faults associated with transmission overheating
Fault codes:
If a malfunction is detected in the automatic transmission oil temperature sensor, one of the following codes may appear:
* P0711 – Low signal level of automatic transmission oil temperature sensor
* P0712 – High signal level of automatic transmission oil temperature sensor
* P0713 – Intermitting signal from the automatic transmission oil temperature sensor
Sensor replacement:
If the automatic transmission oil temperature sensor is faulty, it must be replaced. The replacement process can be complex and requires specific knowledge and tools. Therefore, it is recommended that you contact a qualified mechanic for replacement.
