Translating the gear shift lever of a Toyota automatic transmission

P (parking)
* Keeps the car stationary when parked.

R (reverse)
* Includes reverse gear.

N (neutral)
* Disables transmission. Used when the car is not moving, for example at a traffic light or in a traffic jam.

D (drive)
* Normal driving mode. Optimizes gear shifting for fuel economy and smooth driving.

OD (overdrive)
* Engages the gear with the highest gear ratio. This improves highway fuel economy but may result in less efficient acceleration.

S (sport)
*Keeps the vehicle in lower gears for a sportier driving feel and faster acceleration.

L (low)
*Used for low speed driving or towing. Provides maximum power and torque.

How to use a Toyota automatic transmission correctly:

1. Start the engine. Make sure the gear shift lever is in position P.
2. Press the brake pedal.
3. Move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
4. Release the brake pedal and press the accelerator pedal.

Tips for use:

* To ensure smooth gear shifting, avoid sudden acceleration or deceleration.
* Do not move the gearshift lever to P while driving, as this may damage the transmission.
* Do not press the accelerator pedal when the gear shift lever is in the N or R position.
* Use OD mode on highway to save fuel.
*Use S mode for a sportier driving experience.
* Use L mode when driving on steep slopes or when towing.
