Toyota automatic transmission control mode

Parking position (P)

*Used for parking and storing the car.
* Blocks the transmission.

Reverse (R)

* For moving backwards.
* Move the gear lever to R only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

Neutral (N)

* The transmission is open, the vehicle can roll freely.
*Used for towing or when the vehicle is in neutral.

Drive (D)

*For normal driving.
* The transmission automatically shifts to the appropriate gear depending on speed and load.

D2 (not on all models)

* For driving at low speeds, such as on steep inclines or slippery surfaces.

D1 (not on all models)

* For driving at very low speeds, such as when driving off-road or crawling over rocks.

Additional features

Sport mode lever (S)

* Provides more dynamic gear shifting.
*Holds gears to higher rpm for improved acceleration.

Gear shift lever +/-

* Allows you to manually change gears in Drive (D) mode.
* Move the lever to “+” to upshift or to “-” to downshift.

How to use Toyota automatic transmission

1. Press the brake pedal.
2. Move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
3. Release the brake pedal and gently press the accelerator pedal.
4. To switch to the “Sport” mode, press the gear lever to the left (towards the “S” symbol).
5. To manually shift in D mode, move the lever to the right or left to select the desired gear.
