Adaptation of Touareg automatic transmission after oil change

After changing the automatic transmission oil on a Volkswagen Touareg, it is necessary to adapt the transmission. This ensures proper operation of the gearbox and extends its service life.

Required tools:

* Diagnostic scanner (VAG-COM, VCDS or similar)
* Computer or laptop

Adaptation procedure:

1. Connect the diagnostic scanner to the diagnostic port (usually located under the steering column).
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Open the diagnostic scanner software and go to the transmission section (for example, ‘Transmission’).
4. Find the ‘Customize’ or ‘Basic setup’ function and select it.
5. Select adaptation group 006 (Adaptation of new gear).
6. Click ‘Read’ to read the current adaptation values.
7. Click ‘Save’ to save the new default values.
8. Click ‘Run Basic Settings’ to begin the onboarding process.
9. Follow the instructions on the diagnostic scanner screen. Typically they are as follows:
* Shift the gear shift lever to each position and hold it for a certain period of time.
* Accelerate or decelerate the car.
* Vehicle movement along a specific route.
10. When the adaptation procedure is completed, click ‘Save’ to save the new adaptation values.
11. Turn off the ignition and let the car cool down.

Note:

* The time required to adapt the automatic transmission may vary depending on the Touareg model.
* During the adaptation procedure, the automatic transmission fault indicator (yellow gear icon) lights up. This is normal and does not require attention. Once the onboarding procedure is completed, the icon will disappear.
* It is recommended to carry out a full adaptation of the automatic transmission after replacing the fluid, filter and other transmission components.
