Torque converter oil seal, automatic transmission Lacetti
Purpose:
* Seals the connection between the torque converter and the automatic transmission housing, preventing transmission fluid leakage.
Location:
* In the rear part of the automatic transmission, between the housing and the torque converter.
Design:
* Made of rubber or Teflon.
* Has an internal metal mandrel for reinforcement and prevents deformation.
Signs of malfunction:
* Transmission fluid leaks.
* Jerking and slipping when changing gears.
Causes of malfunction:
* Damage due to aging or high temperature.
* Wear of the inner mandrel.
Replacement:
1. Raise the car on a lift or place it on a viewing hole.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
3. Remove the engine underbody protection (if equipped).
4. Loosen the bolts securing the torque converter to the crankshaft flywheel.
5. Disconnect the automatic transmission cooling hoses.
6. Pull the torque converter out of the automatic transmission housing.
7. Remove the old oil seal from the torque converter.
8. Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the new oil seal.
9. Place a new oil seal on the torque converter.
10. Reinstall the torque converter and tighten the mounting bolts.
11. Connect the automatic transmission cooling hoses.
12. Install engine underbody protection (if equipped).
13. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
14. Check the transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
It is recommended to replace the torque converter oil seal every 60,000 – 80,000 km.
