Location

* The torque converter is located between the engine and gearbox.
*The torque converter seal is located at the rear of the torque converter where it connects to the engine crankshaft.

Function

* The torque converter seal prevents transmission fluid from leaking from the torque converter onto the engine crankshaft.

Replacement

Required tools and materials:

* Wrench set
* Flat head screwdriver
* New torque converter oil seal
* Transmission fluid

Replacement procedure:

1. Remove the automatic transmission. Follow the automatic transmission removal instructions for your specific vehicle.
2. Disconnect the torque converter. Most torque converters are bolted to the engine flywheel. Remove these bolts and carefully remove the torque converter.
3. Remove the old oil seal. Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry the old seal and remove it from the rear of the torque converter.
4. Install a new oil seal. Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the new seal and carefully install it onto the rear of the torque converter. Make sure the seal is completely seated.
5. Install the torque converter. Carefully install the torque converter back onto the engine flywheel and tighten the bolts.
6. Install the automatic transmission. Follow the automatic transmission installation instructions for your specific vehicle.
7. Add transmission fluid. Fill the gearbox with transmission fluid and check its level.

*Use the correct size and type of torque converter seal for your vehicle.
* Make sure the new oil seal is installed correctly to prevent leaks.
*If you notice transmission fluid leaks near the rear of the engine, the torque converter seal may need to be replaced.
