Mechanical symptoms:
* Rough Shifting: The automatic transmission’s suspension cushion provides smooth transitions between gears, and a malfunction can result in harsh shifts.
* Vibration when shifting: The suspension absorbs vibration from the engine and transmission, so a malfunction can cause vibration when shifting.
* Extraneous noise: Noise during gear shifting may be caused by a faulty suspension mount that cannot effectively dampen vibrations.
* Unusual Engine Movement: The engine and transmission should not move excessively when changing gears. A faulty suspension cushion can cause excessive movement, causing knocking and noises.
Electrical Symptoms:
* Shift Position Sensor Error: The Shift Position Sensor may detect a faulty airbag, resulting in an error on the instrument panel.
*Transmission Slippage: A faulty suspension mount can allow the engine and transmission to move excessively, which can cause transmission slippage.
* Increased fuel consumption: A faulty suspension mount can cause the transmission to operate inefficiently, resulting in increased fuel consumption.
*Transmission Fluid Leak: In some cases, a faulty suspension mount can cause transmission fluid to leak due to excessive transmission movement.
Visual signs:
* Physical Damage: Inspect the suspension cushion for cracks, tears or deformation.
* Loose bolts: Check the bolts securing the suspension cushion for looseness or damage.
*Loss of shock absorption: Try pressing down on the suspension pad with your hand. If it does not spring back, this may indicate a malfunction.
