Switching the automatic transmission on a Volkswagen Passat B6

Preparation:

* Make sure the parking brake is set.
* The engine must be running.
* The gear selector must be in neutral (N).

Shifting forward:

1. Press the gear selector lock button located on the right side of the shift knob.
2. Move the selector to the desired position:
* D (drive) – normal driving mode
* S (sport) – sport mode, higher revs and faster gear changes for improved dynamics
* M (manual) – manual mode, manual gear shift

Shifting gears back:

To engage reverse (R) gear, first press the lock button and simultaneously move the selector to the left. Then release the lock button to lock the selector in the R position.

Switching from Parking Mode (P):

To exit parking mode, depress the brake pedal and press the gear selector lock button. Then move the selector to another position.

Shift to Neutral (N):

To move the gear selector to neutral, press the lock button and move the selector to position N.

Notes:

*Do not change gears without pressing the lock button.
* Avoid sudden gear changes.
* If the engine stalls while driving, shift the selector to N (neutral), restart the engine, and then shift to the desired gear position.
*If you have trouble shifting, take it to a qualified mechanic.
