Required tools and materials:
* Wrench set or ratchet
* Jack
* Car stands
* Transmission fluid (ATF, the type recommended for your transmission)
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
*Paper towels or rags
* Container for draining transmission fluid
* Gasket sealant (optional)
Work order:
1. Preparing the car:
* Place the car on a level surface.
* Apply the parking brake.
* Jack up the front of the car and place stands under the side members.
2. Draining transmission fluid:
* Locate the transmission pan located at the bottom of the transmission.
* Place a container under the drain pan.
* Unscrew the pan drain plug with a wrench or ratchet.
* Drain the transmission fluid into a container.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan:
* Unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the automatic transmission housing.
* Gently rock the pan and remove it.
* Remove the old gasket from the pan and automatic transmission housing.
4. Cleaning the pan and automatic transmission housing:
* Clean the pan and automatic transmission housing from any remaining transmission fluid and old gasket.
*Use paper towels or rags to wipe all surfaces dry.
5. Installing a new gasket:
*Apply a thin layer of gasket sealant (optional) to both sides of the new gasket.
* Install the gasket on the automatic transmission pan.
6. Installing the pallet in place:
* Lift the pan and carefully install it on the automatic transmission housing.
* Tighten the pan securing bolts in a crisscross pattern to the recommended torque.
7. Filling with transmission fluid:
* Pour new transmission fluid into the automatic transmission through the filler plug located on the side of the automatic transmission housing.
* Add fluid to the level indicated on the dipstick.
8. Starting the engine:
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Shift the gear lever to each position and return to its original position.
9. Checking the fluid level:
* Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes for the fluid to drain down.
* Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level.
*Add liquid if necessary.
10. Final check:
* Lower the vehicle from the stands.
* Check the automatic transmission pan for leaks.
* Take a test drive to ensure that the automatic transmission operates correctly.
