Tools and materials:

* New automatic transmission solenoid
* Set of socket wrenches
* Set of sockets and screwdrivers
* Container for collecting automatic transmission fluid
* New automatic transmission fluid (Dexron II or III)
* Funnel
* Clean rags

Steps:

1. Ensure safety. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Determine the location of the solenoid. Consult the repair manual for your specific vehicle to determine the location of the automatic transmission solenoid. Usually it is located in the automatic transmission itself or near it.

3. Drain the automatic transmission fluid. Place a container to collect fluid under the automatic transmission and loosen the drain plug. Drain as much fluid as possible, then tighten the drain plug.

4. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Unscrew the bolts of the automatic transmission pan and carefully remove it. It may be necessary to slightly separate the pan from the automatic transmission to remove it.

5. Identify the faulty solenoid. Inspect the automatic transmission solenoids for damage or wear. You may need a tester to determine which solenoid is bad.

6. Remove the faulty solenoid. Disconnect the solenoid electrical connector. Then unscrew the bolts holding the solenoid and remove it from the automatic transmission.

7. Install a new solenoid. Lubricate the new solenoid with a small drop of automatic transmission fluid and install it in the automatic transmission. Torque bolts to specifications.

8. Connect the solenoid. Connect the electrical connector to the new solenoid.

9. Install the automatic transmission pan. Apply a small amount of gasket sealant to the transmission pan gasket. Then install the pan and tighten the bolts to specifications.

10. Fill with new automatic transmission fluid. Fill the automatic transmission with new fluid through a funnel to the level specified in the repair manual.

11. Check the automatic transmission fluid level. Start the engine and allow the automatic transmission fluid to warm up. Then check the fluid level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Add fluid if necessary.

12. Reset the automatic transmission adaptive values. Consult your vehicle’s repair manual for the specific procedure for resetting the automatic transmission adaptive values.

13. Test the automatic transmission. After replacing the solenoid and adding new automatic transmission fluid, drive the car and check the operation of the automatic transmission. Pay attention to any signs of improved performance or resolution of problems.

Adviсe:

*If you are unsure of your ability to complete this task, seek assistance from a qualified mechanic.
* Do not over-tighten the bolts as this may damage the automatic transmission.
* Use only the recommended automatic transmission fluid for your vehicle.
* Be sure to reset the automatic transmission adaptive values after replacing the solenoid.
