Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission oil seal of the appropriate size
* Automatic transmission fluid
* Automatic transmission filter (if necessary)
* Clean rags
* Sealant for automatic transmission (optional)
* Automatic transmission oil pan
Steps:
1. Removing the automatic transmission pan:
* Raise and secure the vehicle on a lift or using jacks.
* Drain the transmission fluid from the automatic transmission pan.
* Remove the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan and carefully remove it.
2. Replacing the oil seal:
* Wrap the oil seal with automatic transmission sealant (optional) to ensure a seal.
* Insert the new oil seal into the corresponding hole in the automatic transmission housing.
*Use a driver or similar tool to carefully tap the seal into place.
3. Surface cleaning:
* Clean the surfaces of the automatic transmission housing and automatic transmission pan. Remove any remaining old oil seal and transmission fluid.
4. Install the automatic transmission pan:
* Apply a small amount of automatic transmission sealant to the gasket or pan joint.
* Carefully install the automatic transmission pan in place and tighten the bolts diagonally to the recommended tightening torque.
5. Add transmission fluid:
* Fill the automatic transmission with new transmission fluid. The amount and type of fluid depends on the car model.
* Check the fluid level using the automatic transmission dipstick and bring it to the required level.
6. Replace the automatic transmission filter (if necessary):
* If your car is equipped with an external automatic transmission filter, replace it with a new one.
7. Check for leaks:
* Start the engine and let the automatic transmission run for a few minutes.
*Check under the car for leaks. If there is a leak, tighten the bolts or check the seal for damage.
8. Clean all parts:
* Clean all tools, rags and parts from transmission fluid.
* Remove excess sealant from the surface of the automatic transmission.
9. Check the fluid level again:
* Drive the car and let it cool down.
