Hyundai Accent automatic transmission speed sensor
Location:
* On the gearbox, to the left of the drive shaft
Function:
* Measures the rotation speed of the drive shaft and transmits a signal to the instrument cluster.
Types of speed sensors:
* Electromagnetic: Uses a gear on a drive shaft and a magnetic sensor that creates voltage pulses.
* Hall effect: Uses the change in magnetic field caused by a gear on a drive shaft to create voltage pulses.
Signs of a faulty speed sensor:
* Inaccurate speedometer reading
*Check Engine light comes on
* Problems with gear shifting (in some automatic transmission models)
Replacing the speed sensor:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Locate the speed sensor on the transmission.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
4. Remove the sensor mounting bolt.
5. Remove the old sensor.
6. Lubricate the O-ring of the new sensor.
7. Insert the new sensor into the transmission.
8. Tighten the mounting bolt.
9. Connect the electrical connector.
10. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
Note:
*Replacing the speed sensor is a relatively simple procedure that you can do yourself with basic tools.
* It is recommended to use an original or high quality speed sensor from the aftermarket manufacturer.
*After replacing the speed sensor, clear the trouble codes using an OBD2 scanner.
