Materials and tools:
* Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) Dexron III or IV (6 liters)
* New transmission filter
* Transmission pan gasket
* 10 mm hex key
* Ratchet wrench
* Funnel
* Rags
* Portable container for draining oil
Replacement instructions:
1. Raise the car on jacks or place it on a lift. Make sure the vehicle is stable and the wheels are blocked with wheel chocks.
2. Drain the old oil from the gearbox. Locate the drain plug under the transmission, usually located at the bottom of the pan. Place a portable container under the drain plug and use a 10mm wrench to unscrew it. Let the oil drain completely.
3. Replace the transmission filter. Unscrew the bolts holding the transmission pan using a 10 mm wrench. Carefully remove the pan, being careful not to spill any remaining oil. Remove the old filter and install the new one. Clean the pan and the adjacent surface of the gearbox from old oil and dirt.
4. Install a new pan gasket. Apply a thin layer of gasket sealant to the new gasket and install it to the transmission pan.
5. Reinstall the tray. Align the pan with the transmission and install it in place. Tighten the bolts using a 10mm wrench.
6. Fill with new transmission oil. Fill in 6 liters of new ATF through the dipstick or inspection hole of the transmission.
7. Check the oil level. Start the engine and let it idle for about 10 minutes. Using the dipstick or inspection hole, check the oil level and add as necessary.
8. Reset the transmission oil change counter. If your vehicle has this feature, reset the transmission oil change counter on your dashboard.
Note:
* Be sure to use the transmission oil recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
*If you are unsure of your skills, it is recommended that you consult a qualified mechanic.
*After an oil change, the transmission may take some time to adjust to the new oil, so don’t be surprised if you notice some change in its performance within the first few days.
