Location and purpose
The automatic transmission solenoid valve (TCM) in the Nissan Almera Classic is located on the automatic transmission housing, next to the gear shift lever. It is responsible for controlling gear shifting and transmitting torque to the transmission.
Operating principle
The solenoid valve receives an electrical signal from the transmission control unit (TCU). This signal opens or closes the valve, allowing hydraulic fluid to flow to the desired valve plates. This controls the pressure and flow of hydraulic fluid, which in turn changes gears.
Symptoms of malfunction
* Gear shifting with delay or slipping
* Sharp shifts or jerks
* Inability to change gears
* The automatic transmission fault indicator lights up on the instrument panel
Possible causes of malfunction
* Electrical fault of the solenoid valve (open or short circuit)
* Clogged or dirty oil passages
*Low or contaminated transmission fluid
* TCU malfunction
Replacement
Replacing the automatic transmission solenoid valve requires removing the automatic transmission. It is recommended that you have a qualified mechanic perform this work.
