Selector lever position sensor, automatic transmission Solaris

The automatic transmission selector position sensor (automatic transmission) on Hyundai Solaris vehicles is designed to determine the position of the gear shift lever and transmit this information to the electronic control unit (ECU) of the automatic transmission.

Operating principle

The automatic transmission selector position sensor is an electronic component that consists of the following elements:

* Multi-position switch corresponding to different gear lever positions (P, R, N, D, M, L, etc.).
* An electrical sensor that generates a voltage signal corresponding to the switch position.

When the driver shifts the gearshift lever, the switch in the shift position sensor moves to the appropriate position, and the electrical sensor generates a voltage signal that is sent to the automatic transmission ECU.

Purpose

Information about the position of the automatic transmission selector is required by the automatic transmission ECU to control the operation of the gearbox, including:

* Blocks gear shifting to positions that do not meet current operating conditions (for example, engaging D gear at too high a speed).
* Determining the direction of travel and selecting the appropriate gear range.
* Torque converter lock-up control for improved fuel economy.

Location

The automatic transmission selector position sensor on Hyundai Solaris vehicles is usually located on the transmission housing or on the gear shift lever. It is connected to the automatic transmission ECU using an electrical wiring harness.

Symptoms of malfunction

A malfunction of the automatic transmission selector position sensor can be manifested by the following symptoms:

* Difficulty shifting gears or abnormal behavior of the automatic transmission.
* The automatic transmission fault indicator lights up on the dashboard.
* Increased fuel consumption.
* Deterioration in vehicle handling.

Replacement

If the automatic transmission selector position sensor is faulty, it must be replaced. To replace the sensor, the following steps will be required:

* Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
* Remove the cup holder and center console cover.
* Find the automatic transmission selector position sensor and disconnect the electrical connector from it.
* Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the sensor.
* Install the new sensor in reverse order.
* Connect the battery and check the operation of the automatic transmission.

It is important to note that replacement of the automatic transmission selector position sensor should be performed by a qualified specialist in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
