Changing the gearbox oil of a Skoda Superb with an automatic transmission
Materials:
* Transmission oil for automatic transmission, meeting Skoda specifications (about 8 liters)
* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Carburetor cleaner
* Cleaning brush
* Funnel
* Socket wrench 10
* Hexagon 8
* Torque wrench
Tools:
* Lift or pit
* Wrench set
* Flat head screwdriver
Replacement procedure:
1. Preparation for replacement
* Place the car on a lift or pit.
* Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery.
* Allow the gearbox to cool to room temperature.
2. Drain old oil
* Unscrew the drain plug of the automatic transmission pan and drain the old oil into a prepared container.
* Replace the drain plug gasket and tighten it using a torque wrench to 30 Nm.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan to the gearbox housing.
* Lightly tap the tray to release it from the body.
* Carefully remove the tray.
* Clean the pan and magnets of metal particles and dirt using carburetor cleaner and a brush.
4. Replacing the filter and o-ring
* Remove the old automatic transmission filter and attach the new filter in its place.
* Replace the O-ring on the filter housing.
5. Installing the automatic transmission pan
* Apply a small layer of sealant to the mating surface of the automatic transmission pan.
* Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts using a torque wrench to 10 Nm.
6. Refilling with new oil
* Pour new oil into the gearbox through the dipstick hole.
* Fill in about 8 liters of oil.
7. Checking the oil level
* Start the engine and warm up the gearbox to operating temperature.
* Turn off the engine and check the oil level using the dipstick.
* The oil level should be between the «Min» and «Max» marks on the dipstick.
8. Resetting gearbox adaptation (optional)
* Some Skoda Superb models require gearbox adaptation to be reset after an oil change. Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for instructions.
9. Final assembly
* Install the positive terminal of the battery.
* Check the tightness of the automatic transmission pan connection after driving several kilometers.
* If necessary, add oil to the required level.
