How does an automatic transmission (AT) work in a Skoda Rapid?

The automatic transmission in the Skoda Rapid uses a double-disc, electronically controlled wet clutch. When the driver shifts the lever to the D (Drive) position, the automatic transmission control system allows the discs to slowly touch, transferring torque from the engine to the transmission.

Basic automatic transmission modes:

* D (Drive): Normal mode for automatic driving. The automatic transmission selects the optimal gear for the current driving conditions.
* S (Sport): Holds gears longer, resulting in sportier vehicle performance.
* L (Low): Ideal for uphill or off-road driving as it uses lower gears.

Gear shift:

* Acceleration: When the driver presses the gas pedal, the automatic transmission control system automatically shifts to higher gears.
* Braking: When you press the brake pedal or release the gas, the automatic transmission control system shifts to lower gears.

Other automatic transmission functions:

* Tiptronic: A mode that allows the driver to manually change gears using the steering wheel paddles.
* Engine Start/Stop: A system that temporarily turns off the engine when the vehicle is stopped to save fuel.

Automatic transmission control:

* Gear shift lever: For selecting automatic transmission mode and shifting gears in manual mode.
* Paddle shifters: For changing gears in Tiptronic mode.
* Automatic transmission control system: An electronic module that controls the operation of the automatic transmission, including gear shifting, torque and torque converter lock-up.

Automatic transmission service:

* Regular replacement of automatic transmission oil and filter (every 60,000-80,000 km).
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level and top up if necessary.
* Preventive diagnostics and repairs when signs of automatic transmission malfunctions occur.
