Replacing the internal CV joint of an automatic transmission on a Skoda Fabia
Tools and materials:
* Car repair tool kit
* New inner CV joint
* Grease for CV joints
* Sealant for automatic transmission
* Cleaning brush
* Rags
Management:
1. Preparation
* Remove the terminal from the negative terminal of the battery.
* Raise the car on jacks and place it on supports.
* Remove the front wheel from the side of the faulty CV joint.
2. Disconnecting the drive shaft
* Remove the hub nut.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the upper ball joint.
* Gently hit the steering knuckle with a hammer to release the drive shaft from the hub.
* Turn the steering wheel away from the faulty shaft.
* Pull the drive shaft out of the gearbox.
3. Replacing the CV joint
* Remove the CV joint boot mounting clamp.
* Carefully slide the boot off the shaft.
* Using a puller or a hammer and chisel, remove the faulty CV joint from the shaft.
* Clean the shaft and CV joint seat with a brush.
*Apply CV joint lube to the new CV joint.
* Install a new CV joint on the shaft.
* Put on the boot and tighten the clamp.
4. Installation of the drive shaft
* Insert the drive shaft into the gearbox.
* Secure the upper ball joint.
* Install the drive shaft into the hub.
* Tighten the hub nut.
5. Wheel installation
* Reinstall the wheel.
* Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts.
6. Completion
* Connect the terminal to the negative terminal of the battery.
* Check the level and color of the automatic transmission fluid. Add or replace fluid as necessary.
* Check the tightness of the automatic transmission connections.
* Test drive to ensure there is no noise or vibration.
